The 20th annual Kristine Cuzzi Sock, Hat and Mitten Drive October 5 was a huge success. This year’s event brought in almost 4,000 individual items (3959 to be exact) for our 8 local charities.
That brings our 20-year total to 46,058 items. We also raised $2,160 for charity through a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, raffle baskets and live auction. Thanks to Joyce Daniels for her donation of Bruins and Celtics tickets, which garnered a combined total of $1,350 in the live auction.
The event was bittersweet for regular attendees as it was the first year without longtime knitting volunteer Chris Dean who passed away since last year. Her fellow knitters, Lucille Matthew and Betty Randlett, knit a total of 247 items for this year’s drive.
Event Chair Diana Minutelli honored Lucille and Betty for their years of dedicated service to the SHMD. The ladies were presented with a picture collage and framed photo of all three knitters at the last drive all attended together, along with gifts cards and some new yarn (hint hint).
Diana recognized Ann Mary and Susan R. whose shopping efforts yielded 2,500 items for the drive. Thanks also to VP/Social Director Vince MacQueen for the great music and Diane “Selfie Stick” Hollingworth for all the great photos of the night.
This year’s donations will go to: Families First Health and Support Center; Cross Roads House; My Friend’s Place; Connections Peer Support Center; My Turn, Rockingham Nutrition and Meals on Wheels, and the Dover Teen Center. Diana also set aside a small bag to deliver to Liddy’s House of Hope, an organization she and her co-workers volunteer with.
